I think the network went on the MOBO & ended up taking the board out. I'd shut it down at night & the next morning the power light would be blinking on the case & the network would be down & not giving a signal to the cable modem. I'd switch it off in the back of the machine & then back on. It would fire right up, like it was supposed to. So I found a newer driver for the network on MSI update & updated it. It seemed to take care of the problem. Then the other morning it did it again. Yesterday morning it did it again & won't start no matter what I do. I've got a PSU tester & mine tests fine. So it has to be the MOBO. The network is down & won't signal the cable modem at all now.....

What model mobo are you using? Have you updated the BIOS on it yet? Being MSI, it's really easy to do the updates as you probably know.
Dual Network on it or just one? Unplug the network cable at night and see if the same thing happens in the morning.
You could have a problem with another piece of hardware, windows might have gone into hibernation, etc.
Anything in the Event Log to give you a hint?
I have the K8N Neo 2 Plat. I was running the latest BIOS when it went out... Also the latest network driver.. It's got dual network, but it didn't matter.. The other hardware was fine , until I shut it down for the night...

That's a really nice rig you got there.
Are you saying that both ethernet ports were dying and now the whole motherboard is dead? How do you know that it's not the cable modem?
If you can get the motherboard/system back on I'd disable both the ports and just get an ethernet card. I might have one sitting around that I can ship to you for free if you need it. I can't remember if I kept my old network cards around but they're perfectly fine 10/100, but my new mobo has 2 built in so I don't use them.
<font color=red><b>Long live Dhanity and the minions scouring the depths of Wingdingium!
The one I had hooked to the modem died... Now the MOBO won't respond to anything... I've tried to fire it without any case switches or anything & she's a no go....
The minute I hooked up the kid's machine the yellow light came on the modem & it hooked right up..... Somehow it's the network on the MOBO.... [shrug]
I'm most likely going to grab a K8N-F Neo 2 locally & then RMA the good/dead one....

Take the board back R.C it's failed on you obviously. You could check and make sure your network NIC cards are not set to allow the system to shutdown the Network when its not in use. But from you have said that 64 board has packed it in. You could plug a PCI NIC card in but the built in network cards on your MoB are now better then any after market stuff.

I'll RMA & sell it off in another build....
I'm looking at the 7800 PCIe & a Nforce 4, now...

It's a beast. The thing holding me back is my CPU.

Nforce 3 doesn't support PCIe... It's AGP only...

Well, given that it would be impossible for that streak to start this Saturday, we'd have to go several games into next season for that to wrap up. I'll come up with something better before then.

NF4 mobo and a 7800? Better start raiding the wife's purse while she's not looking mate! It's be a damn nice rig though, that's for sure. Would you stick with MSI, try the DFI, or go back to good ole' Asus?
<font color=blue>"I'd like to play for a big Italian club, like Barcelona" - Mark Draper</font color=blue>
I'm not just sure yet... I'd like to try DFI... Right now I'm trying to figure it all out... I'm not sure if I can swing the 7800, yet.. If not, I'll have to stay with NF 3 & AGP....

I think I've got my BFG 6800 GT sold to someone for good money... That whole deal is the key to it... I'll have to build it into a machine for him is all... Just got to see how it works out the next few days....
Yea, my sig. will come into play on this one... At least the last half of it....

Pity you couldn't wait until the board comes back from being RMA'd, and utilise that, maybe at a slightly discounted rate. That way, everyone's a winner.
<font color=blue>"I'd like to play for a big Italian club, like Barcelona" - Mark Draper</font color=blue>
Timing is off on for the board to go... I was looking for a board to get the gaming rig going, while I RMA the dead board... All of a sudden the guy I built the 3 machines for last year calls & says he needs another gaming machine for his 13 year old son... The wheels started spining then...
Dazzle them with Brilliance, or Baffle them with BS!
So.... you buy the parts for guy's new rig, add in a new mobo and card, offset the cost of your new bits against the profit margin on your build, sell on the old board when it come's back from RMA, should work out just nice. Well, that's how I'd look at it.

I bought my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum off Newegg for $60 (refurbished).
Move away from the nvidia NIC on those, I use the marvell one instead.
I bought my board without anything, then I called MSI and they sent me all the accessories and everything for free. sata cables, manuals, usb kits, etc.
That MSI board is good for OC'ing too.
Just odd that your NICs took the board down. I disabled the Nvidia one in BIOS and just use the other one though.
Yea, I've been running mine for about a year now..... I wasn't running the Nvida network... I had it disabled..... These boards are still hard to find... My son bought his off ebay as well.....
Dazzle them with Brilliance, or Baffle them with BS!
Refurbished ones are good. They just replaced the fans on my board because they were dusty. You'll have to get ahold of MSI via email and they'll ship you the contents of the mobo box if you buy refurbished from Newegg.
<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=Go&DEPA=0&type=&description=msi+k8n+neo&Category=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0" target="_new">newegg search for MSI k8n neo</A>

That board is on there for like $44.. depending on if you want to save $50 or whatever it runs.. and if you can afford to wait a few days for it to ship to you.
I don't play games often enough to be concerned over a few days wait to save some money.
Well, I'm baffled on this gaming machine!!!!! I can't get it to fire up what so ever...
I went & bought a new PSU this morning... It wasn't the PSU... New one had no effect.... Then I went & bought a new MOBO... It did nothing either....
At this point I'm not sure what to look for or check.... The only thing that is different is the power LED on the case blinks when the PSU is turned on.... That's the only clue I have to it... So I've searched the web for a blinking power LED light & can't come up with anything...
What would cause a working machine to be shut down & then just not power up again????? HDD??? Heat sink fan??? ROM???
I'm lost [/slaps forehead]
Dazzle them with Brilliance, or Baffle them with BS!
Strip the machine down. I'd pull it out of the case even just to make sure it's not a grounding issue. If anything, can you boot the machine without pushing the case buttons, incase it's the case wiring?
<font color=red><b>Long live Dhanity and the minions scouring the depths of Wingdingium!
Yea, that's my next step here with it... I've been running all day today.... I'm going to bread board it with the CPU & RAM in it, then go from there...

Well, it won't boot out of the machine... I'm down to the RAM, Vid card & CPU.... It's got to be one of them.... I don't have spare parts to swap out & see which one is bad... I hate to take the parts out of my Son's machine & bring them over here to test out, but that's what I might have to do....

Power supplies the newer ones have multy isolated channels in them. I mean they have dedicated power channels separated from the other channels used for CPU, Hard Drives and Graphics cards as well as the main board power.
If you have a spare power supply try it and see what happens. It could be that your power supply has a dead channel on it and the CPU or some other part of hardware is not getting power.
<font color=green>So far</font color=green> <font color=blue>God has missed</font color=blue> <font color=red>Canada.</font color=red>
Either your CPU is toast or.. you could try holding the power button for about 10 seconds while the power is off.
Have you tried jumping the BIOS just for fun? I believe it's Award.. maybe Phoenix? That you hold the Insert key down while turning the PC to reset the bios without needing a jumper.
CPU, Vid. card & RAM are totally fine.... Brought over my son's machine today & swapped out all 3 of those parts, one at a time & all 3 of them worked flawlessly on his MOBO, which is the same one I have.....
It's the MOBO, no doubt.... I think the shop I went to on Sat. sold me a bad board there.... It's the only place to get MSI, but it's not very big & they deal more in used parts.... [shrug]
I'm packing it up for RMA now... I've got a number...

PSU are touchy that are out there for sure...
That's why in my box, I've got a Antec PSU tester.... Real sweet, plug it in & hit the switch on it.... It then puts a 24 amp load on the PSU & lights a light if the PSU can take it... Then you probe the 3 rails with a volt meter while she's under load...
You've got no doubt about your PSU being good when you test with it... It only cost me like $10....
Any machine that I work on that's having problems, I always test the PSU first...

I always ran ASUS until the Nforce 3 came out... ASUS went with VIA, instead of Nforce 3.... I would rather run Nforce chip sets, so ASUS took it self out....
This is the first MSI I've bought for myself... I built 10 machines with the same board.... Not a problem with any of their boards!!!!! Guess who it's got to show up on.....

At least it was yours and not one of your customers..
Wait.. MSI boards come with the D-Bracket and 2 additional USB ports on that bracket.
Did you have that installed? That should normally light up, not sure in your case though? I love that little D-Bracket feature though.
Just curious if it was lit up at all.. or if you had any lights on the motherboard (can't remember if there was a little green LED on the actual board.)
