I have a dimension 8300 and bought an optical mouse with it (Dell MG USB 2
button wheel Optical (not cordless). At first it worked ok. Then the cursor
started diving off the screen occasionally. Now it is freezing every couple
of minutes and the only way to get it back is to unplug then replace the USB
connection. Any suggestions?

Hmmm... USB drivers maybe? Not sure, just throwing that out there.

This might sound like a daft one, but I have a cheapo optical mouse and
at times it gets erratic / unresponsive. Check if there`s any debris
where the LED is - mine is usually caused by a hair next to the sensor

Well Colin, I took it apart. A spring flew out that looked as if it might be
important. My lad said he could see some muck or a hair or something, he's
obviously got better eyesight than me. Anyhow I gave it a blow and
eventually managed to get it all together again, spring and all.
IT HASN'T FROZEN SINCE!!!
Fingers crossed.
Thanks for your help
