How to prevent data steal from stolen HD?

Do Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro have some kind of setting to "lock/secure" HD data? (even the windows is password protected, people can still connect the stolen HD and connect to a working Win2k or XP to access the data inside) If Windwos can't do that? Are there any software or hardware available for this?

you can encrypt it. im not going to just tell you how to do it. if you dont understand it you can screw yourself easy. i suggest you study it before trying it with data you really need.
