Just noticed that none of the main retailers here in Denmark have Northwood 1.6A in stock and that the price has gone up.

The word has spread ...

Intel is simply phasing out the lower speed, back-filled procs in the line as they're prepping to release the 2.4A. As supply goes down the price will go up as long as the demand remains.
