I know this is relatively old but I am considering upgrading my pentium 350 on an original asus p2b mb to what I consider a faster chip, namely a pentium III - 600 and I wonder if the original slot 1 and later s.e.c.c.2 form factor are compatible on the same mb? Once I flash a new bios so my mb will support the new chip will I just have to switch the processors or will this not work? Do I need different retaining clips for the newer chip or can I use the old ones. I've looked at many sites to get as much information as possible but I thought I should get some real world opinions on this. This is the cheapest way for me anyways to upgrade for now. Thanks for any replies.....

SECC (P-II) and SECC2 (P-III) are functionally compatible, but you might need a separate retention mechanism. Plus, you might need to update the BIOS.

but I doubt you would get any slot1 processor these days, maybe a slotket with a Coppermine processor (even these with 100 MHz FSB are rare) would be a good upgrade!
