<RttToEE spoiler below...>

Last night we finished Q1 (Queen of the Demonweb Pits), having already
completed the entire series (T1-4, A1-4, G1-3, and D1-3). In Q1, for some
reason Lolth keeps a young black and a young white dragon in her palace. In
our game, the party parleyed with the black dragon, and let it know that,
given the amount of gold they had spent there, Hommlet would be a good
target for further plunder.

I plan to start a new set of characters on Return to the Temple of Elemental
Evil in the near future. What a great coincidence to discover that one of
the first encounters in that module, is a young black dragon that has taken
over the Moathouse near Hommlet!

Are you sure? IIRC, it's a young _blue_ dragon, rather than a black
dragon, who has the rather silly name of "Utreshimon". (We had to
change the name IMC; it just sounded too much like the name of a
Digimon.)

Ooh, you might be right! It's been a while since I cracked the adventure.
I think I'll have to change Utreshimon from blue to black for consistency.

Probably a good idea. I like to bring my PCs' choices into published
adventures more thoroughly, too. Good luck on the adventure!

Hmm... I take it your party aren't of a loosely "good" alignment, then?

I *like* that. I like it a lot.

Some of the character are, but all it takes is one loose tongue. The
party's main diplomats are neutral, one with chaotic tendencies, one with
lawful tendencies. The former thought this suggestion would spice things
up, the latter agreed that this approach might help the party avoid fighting
the dragon. They don't often discuss proposals with the Priestess of
Pholtus. She'd rather smite evil than talk to it!
