I've been using Pocket Tunes, but the options state the screen can't be
turned off during playback. Is there a player that will allow me to turn off
the screen and conserve power?

Thanks..I was trying Real Player and it does allow the screen to be turned
off during play, but I've had some problems with it. There are a couple of
playlist names that are only partially complete and every time I click on
one to edit or delete it, the phone goes into a reset. So I banished the
program to a hidden category.

Pocket Tunes can do it, well version 3.06 does on my T2. Go to the
Prefs/General Preferences and tick the box for "Power button turns off
screen". You can also select it to turn the screen off after 10, 30 or 60
seconds.

That option isn't available on my Treo 650, however, I upgraded to v3.0.9
and it works...thanks.

That's odd because I use Pocket Tunes with my Treo 600 and I can turn off
the screen during playback. In fact, it does RealPlayer one better and
allows me to turn off the screen during playback no matter what application
is running. The version of RealPlayer I tried turns off the screen only if
it happens to be running when the machine turns off, otherwise, it stops
playback when your Palm turns itself off. So if for example, I'm reading an
e-book while RealPlayer plays music in the background, playback stops as
soon I turn off my PDA or if it turns itself off. Pocket Tunes on the other
hand until I specifically turn playback off either from within Pocket Tunes
itself or through it pop up console. My version of Pocket Tunes doesn't
even have an Options menu. It has a Prefs menu which includes a Background
Preferences item which allows you to enable background playback. It also
has a General Preferences menu item which includes a check box labeled
"Power button turns off screen." These are the two options you need to
choose if you want to be able to turn off the screen with Pocket Tunes.
