me again i posted b4 about my amd 1700 and k7s5a being crap well with regards to the chipset heatsink trick anyone know if te fact that my chipset heatsink is VERY hot denotes i should perform this ??
Usually problems with instability on this board are caused by insufficient power supplies or memory, but if you feel your chipset is overheating, cool it! You can attach a 40mm fan!
When I was trying to pin point the source of my K7S5A lock ups/restarts and I would curious if it was the chipset overheating, I just opened the side of my case and put a 20" box fan blowing directly on it. I felt this was sufficent cooling to keep it from overheating and when it still locked up and had random restarts I eliminated the chipset overheating as a cause. The heatsink was warm to the touch with that much airflow and not hot as before.
