Audio not working

Hello,
I have a little problem. Windows is able to see my audio drivers just dandy and claims that my sound is working beautifully and that I have speakers plugged in... But in reality it isn't making any sounds. I am worried that my sound card may have gotten fried when I tried plugging my mic into my front panel audio because it immediately powered down my computer. I welcome any input, and thank you to whoever tries to help.

sean a lot of time i seen nvidia or the ati hdmi audio be the main audio output device. for the speakers to work the realteck or other audio chipset has to be the main audio output device.
