hi, well after building my first system a few months ago, i've finally decided to make it quieter, so i could sleep with it on. currently, i have 3 sunon 80mm fans and a thermal right sk-6 w/ a 38cfm delta. this is all very loud, i might was well put a hairdryer under my pillow rather than trying to sleep with it on... so anyways, i'm gonna get some panaflo's to replace the case fans, but i still think that the HSF is gonna be the noise.... bottle neck hehe.
so anyway, i've looked at the quiet panaflo 60mm and its like 19 cfm... well i'm wondering if a 19cfm fan sitting atop my sk-6 will be enough to cool a 1700+, currently its not overclocked, but i plan on overclocking it again in the future, no more than 100mhz or so. so i need to know if this will be sufficient, if it isnt, well i need to know the quietest thing that will do. i dont wanna buy an alpha HSF, cause i'm really poor right now. i was thinking if i could find a 60->80mm adaptor i might be able to use that... anyway thx for help in advance.

I know this is not what you asked but this is how I solved my sound problems.

I would buy a 3-prong switch, place all the case fans on a separate power lead, and then wire these fans to switch between the 12v yellow and the 5v red lines. This way when you’re not cranking 100% CPU loads you can switch to 5v lines and enjoy the peace and quiet. When you need to crank up the juice, activate the 12v switch and watch your case hover. I also have a rheostat on my CPU fan, which allows me to tune its speed down thus producing quiet with ample cooling. When doing this you should actively monitor your temps making sure you never enter a dangerous situation. Making sure your MB temp shutoffs are active in bios is also imperative.

All errors are undocumented features waiting to be discovered.

you could maybe try thermaltake's 60mm fan that they use on their volcano5/6cu heatsinks. those produce a good amount of airflow and are quiet. with that all copper heatsink i would think it would do well. when you got the heatsink, didn't it come with the extra clips to support an 80mm fan? the places i've seen usually throw in those clips. a decent 80mm fan is another way to go.

I run duals because i multitask between notepad, outlook express and winamp
