4Ghz folks... pretty schnazzy

I have a hard time understanding why someone would overclock their computers to amazing levels, yet still use a piece of crap OS like Windows ME. Did you see how many of those guys are using WinME?
Very strange.

3152 Mhz on air cooling. Wow!
<font color=red><A HREF="http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame63.html" target="_new">Kennyshin: Forum Troll</A></font color=red><font color=blue>
yep... strange.
maybe ME is the most oc tollerant. who knows?
also floating around on that site is the list of XP overclocks...
think the record now is an XP2100 @ 2.17Ghz.
liquid nitrogen goodness again

That's a 1840 Mhz difference. I wonder what the difference is in performance. How little does Mhz mean at 4 Ghz?
<font color=red><A HREF="http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame63.html" target="_new">Kennyshin: Forum Troll</A></font color=red><font color=blue>
i bet the performance at 4Ghz isnt as good as what would one expect... why? its using a DDR chipset. even at that high fsb it cant really handle the bandwidth requirements of the p4.
the 3.8Ghz on a rdram would proly be better
Morally destitute, Emotionally bankrupt but a proud and respected member of Toms Forums!
Yeah, and besides that, the Northwood will be enjoying a 133Mhz FSB by the time it hits 4 Ghz.

Not to mention the 4mb Millennium PCI. I guess the more Millennium the more the Megahertz.
All errors are undocumented features waiting to be discovered.
I use WinME, I'm quite fond of it for gaming. In fact I prefer it to Win98SE. It just takes a bit of tweaking and it's actually better.
Anything goes when it comes to hoes cuz pimpin aint easy.
it looks like ME is definitely more o/c tolerant. every single one of those overclocks are with ME. My personal fav is the 1.6A running at 3.6+ Ghz. that's over 125% oc!!
The holder of <i>this</i> pass is <b>exempt</b> from all forms of <font color=red>flaming</font color=red>.
I couldn't get it to run on my system when I got it so after a couple of weeks I had to give up on it. I had friends who stuck to it though and I swear they had the weirdest errors, and often too. They just think of BSODs as normal now. They've learned to work around it.
At least yours is working. I'm convinced it depends completely on your hardware. You got lucky. My dvd decoder card, cd-rw, and sound card didn't work properly if I remember correctly.

Ughhh I have my own tales with WinME.
I had a video sketch project to do for class. My friend had this brand new P3 1GHZ back then with an AIW card for encoding and capturing. Lucky me with he had ME! Opening Adobe Premiere would crash, starting to encode would crash, opening files crash. Absolutly nothing could not crash. I've almost gotten used to illegal ops! Reboots constantly, almost 20 times in a half hour. I almost died there, came to his house for a week and more, trying to finalize the damn video editing and transfer it on card... it was just atrocious, we were finding ourselves praying to nobody that it succeeds the damn edit! In the end when we did transfer to VCR, image was blurry as hell, sound was low, we failed. I chose not to show it at all in class! Thank you WinME thhhhhhhhhaaaannnk you!!!

I use Win Me too, it's far better than WinXP for older games. Try running DOS stuff with sound in WinXP, not gonna happen too often. And totally impossible with stuff that needs real mode, like the classic Wing Commander Privateer. Win Me is basically Win98 with some big fixes and a castrated DOS. But the DOS portion can largely be "de-castrated" with the real mode patch provided by third parties.

For the most part these people don't keep their computers at the insane clock speeds, they just overclock, and get a screen shot that proves they got into windows at said clock speed. Windows ME boots relatively fast, especially when you strip it of all un needed aps. So I doubt that these people are able to run much else other than WCPUID, or else we would probably see some benchmark results elsewhere like 3Dmark2001 at least. Some of these rigs have Ti500s and I'm sure if they were capable of finishing 3Dmark they would be seen all over creation, but unfortunatly they arn't. Its interesting to know P4 can run that fast, but performance wise we just won't know until they can run that fast longer than a few minutes. The one with 235 Mhz fsb quad pumped was my favorite
If my response is brief and vague its because the info you provided is too!
WinXP boots way faster than 98 and ME =).
<font color=red>:</font color=red> <font color=white>:</font color=white> <font color=blue>:</font color=blue>
I doubt, my WinXP takes about 10 green notches on the splash screen. But yea the login startup is fast indeed, it loads all into tray in 5 seconds, compared to Win98-ME that take over 20.

They are interested in pure clockspeed numbers, not performance or stability. Those who want performance and stability go with an i850 chipset on an Abit or Asus motherboard and use Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Is that really needed? I am sure everyone would complain if I added "<A HREF="http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame3.html" target="_new">Matisaro & Eden: Big Dog and Me-Too</A>" to my sig. Besides <A HREF="http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame28.html" target="_new">this</A> one fits him much better.

Ray I find it offensive you consider me a "Me-too". Now why is that? For stating a logical POV opinion?
Please explain to me why.

I'd recommend you just leave it, that line of discussion isn't going to get you anywhere.

I see two of the links. I can only assume Matisaro provided another, but I no longer read his posts as of a couple weeks ago due to his severe attitude problem. (This is possible using the threaded view.) What was the third link?
Thanks,

My only problem was with your piss poor debating and refusal to accept other points of view, which makes you a stone deaf which I linked to.
Im glad you dont read my posts, because every stupid point you try to make which is incorrect, I fix, and since you dont read it, I dont have to listen to your bullshit replies which are invariably wrong.
Like the athlon not having a ddr bus.
or ddr ram running at 200mhz internally(or 266) which is wrong.
or that you know personally the athlon was designed for a 2ghz topspeed, what being an intel SOFTWARE ENGINNER and all.
So im glad you ignore those who disagree with you, just easier to shut you up that way.

Intel knows many things about AMD products, just as AMD knows about Intel products. This is not to say they will not change it, but it is the current plan. The engineers are still at odds with the marketing department in regards to this, so the decision can still be reversed. I would lobby against it if I were you.
Another example of Intel's knowledge of AMD's products can be seen in the disassembling of one of their processors. Upon taking an Athlon to pieces we found there is already 0.13 micron technology inside. Thus, they will not get as much of a boost with the 'official' 0.13 micron process change. They are already seeing some of its benefits today. This is how AMD has achieved the high clockspeeds using the same old core. The Inquirer <A HREF="http://www.theinquirer.net/03110101.htm" target="_new">reported on this</A> one.

Is this how you <i>didn't</i> know that the Athlon used a DDR FSB? I found that very amusing, especially since I knew that detail even before the Athlon was released. Those were the days when I was still an Intel fan, too.
<i>If a server crashes in a server farm and no one pings it, does it still cost four figures to fix?
| Quote : Is this how you didn't know that the Athlon used a DDR FSB? |
I admit to not having known that in the past. However, I pay more attention to the interesting tidbits than I do to the ones printed on the label, since I am not purchasing the chip. I am sure there are other things I do not know about the Athlon. I do not claim to know everything about AMD's chips, but I do know some things that are worthy of mentioning now and then.

More intel FUD.
The .13 technology they are spouting off about was gatelength, which has little to do with the main benifit of a die shrink, namely lowered heat and shortened electrical paths.
Intel only wishes they could get gl's as tight as seen in the axp, gl's as tight as that are a sign of a kickass refined process.
Nope ray, you dont know anything about amds internal workings, you just spout crap you believe and then justify it with an almost year old inquirer article.
Just like you KNOW the hammer will not be unlockable, debate computer technology with us, dont try to spoon feed intel fud to everyone.
The Cash Left In My Pocket,The BEST Benchmark
I did notice one thing with the Win98/ME thing. The newer the hardware the better it seemed to work on WinME. When I tried to load it on my older K6-2 system it gave me nothing but problems but on my Tbird and P3 systems it worked like a charm. Also without half the conflicts I would get with Win98. I guess it's hit or miss with some people.
Anything goes when it comes to hoes cuz pimpin aint easy.
I've timed it WinME is the fastest loader. Often times when WinXP is at the desktop it is not finished loading many of it's services and programs. Plus, WinME is still fastest.
