Compaq CQ-61-4 not booting

Hello,

Battery is dead. On-off switch lights, but cuts out after 5 seconds of my depressing it, but not before going to blue light for a nano-second.

Is this a software or hardware issue? Windows 7

You seem to have answered you own question unless there is something you failed to mention. Charge the dead battery and see what happens.

Does it work OK when plugged in to the mains? If so it is just needs a new battery.
