Anyone know what price you can get Owens-Corning Oakridge AR 50, AR 40 and AR 30 Architectural shingles for???

I went to Lowes today, and they had the AR 30 for $14.99 per bndl, 4 bndls to a square... but did not have and could not find prices for the AR 40 or 50 shingles in the store or in computer, but did have a price for the WeatherGuard AR-40 Architectural shingles at $26.99 per bndle, go figure.

I buy them at Southern Surplus, In Athens Georgia. Usually about 1/4 to 1/3 original cost. The last batch I picked up was for the Mother-in-laws home.
Got 36 square for 800.00 . That is a little over $22 per square for the 30 year shingles.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Reply to Rick_Criswell

Does Home Depot carry this brand? If they do and the supply isnt limited I can probably get an employee discount 10% to 15%. One of the managers in Hattiesburg is a good friend.

BTW, I went to Hammond, Baton Rouge, and NO yesterday. They were saying on the radio that Baton Rouge has aprox. 500,000 more residents because of the hurricane. The interstate is so backed up.

From what I have heard, the larger corps that had their main offices in NO have moved them to Baton Rouge, and plan to keep it that way, and as things are rebuilt, they will have smaller offices in NO, keeping main office at the capitol.
Makes sense.

Are you going to roof the house yourself? Had luck finding the AR40 or AR50s?

I'm having someone roof my house, but I was considering buying the material to save some money.

I am roofing myself, got a air button cap stapler and air nailing gun.

I did not have luck finding anything but the AR30 at Lowes and Home Depot, but I just got word that Eagle Supply Wholesalers have the Titanium UDL underlayer and I am going to check with them today for the shingles.

Reply to RCPilot

Yes contractors are charging $7,000 to $9,000 for jobs that would have been done for under 5 grand 2 months ago.
Also, since roofing is so much in demand, they are hiring anyone willing to work, and lots do not have exerience. A friend had a roof installed by a local contractor, and was installed in two days for $7,000. The day after, and the day the invoice was to be paid, shingles flew off roof in the 25mph gusts. Chip called contractor who came over, and immediately had crew back to strip roof back down to decking and redo it. He said that the leader was sick and off work, and the crew was green and did not install roof right. It was not straight lines (wavy looking) and they did not use 6 nails per shingle.
luckily this happened before he paid them. Others are not so fortunate. But on his roof for example, his materials would have been around $2,000 give or take. And that leaves $5,000 for labor. It took one day to stip the roof, and two days to finish it. That is pretty good money.

Anyway, doing it myself won't save me money, but I will get premium products and will inspect decking and make sure it is done right.

The two citys that have the largest numbers of new residents is Baton Rouge and Hammond which are both North of NO. The traffic on the interstates has become a serious hazard. I saw 4 wrecks and two involved at least 8 people each. Sat in one spot for 1 1/2 hours there were dead people everywhere. People are frustrated and acting like idiots. In my city, we have over 25K new residents. We also have the staging grounds for the FEMA trailers. Im not sure how many are sitting there waiting to be dispatched to homeless people but there is a t least 20 acres of trailers that are visiable from the interstate. This is causing really dangerous conditions. Something else that factors in to the high number of wrecks is the changed landscape. The MS. Highway Patrol thinks that im wrong about this: There are so many trees gone that now the wind gust coming across the highway are at least 5 times what they were before the hurricane. Thats enough to move the front end of a vehicle. Its not something that you couldnt handle but people dont realize that if they are in a low flat spot that they better have both hands on the steering wheel. The higher wind gust make most drivers look DUI.

Did you have architectural shingles before or is this an upgrade? What's up with the special underlayment?

The guy that will be roofing my house is an old friend of the family that I worked for (roofing) when I was a teenager. He won't gouge me...well that and I just don't have the time/inclination to roof it myself.

This stuff is great, they sell it local at Eagle Supply, don't know the price, but found one dealer online selling it for around $100 per 10-square roll.

That makes it about double the material cost of felt, but it is a much better moisture barrier than felt.

LMAO!

You know a little about phone lines dont you? We were one of the few family that didnt lose phone service in the hurricane, however the fockwits with the power company cut our phone line instead of just pulling the friggin staples off of the pole. Basically the only thing that is keeping us from a phone is the fact that there are about 10 different possibilities at the base of the pole and I dont know which one is ours. Back years ago there was some kind of trick that you could use that would signal that you had hooked yours up. I dont remember what the trick was, do you happen to know? I wouldnt even worry with it, but BellSouth is running way behind schedual and may be as late as DEC. getting it done.

Reflecting sunglasses ? perhaps you need to run a paper towel over your monitor there MAC.

Company supplied (sunglass/safety) glasses must be worn at all times when you are using tools of any type. Since I had an OPI unit open and tools on as well as taking pictures wearing one's safety glasses is a good thing to do.

What types would you like for safety sunglasses MAC I got 6 different types for indoor outdoor and cold weather to rain and sunshine.

Since I only worked that job for 3 months until I got back into High Tech engineering I wear them driving to work.
