Word xp and windows 7

When I start Word XP in Windows 7, the program opens perfectly, but when trying to open a file, the program locks up. Help Please. Word is running in compatibility mode (XP Service Pack 2).

Maybe the document you are trying to open was saved with new version of Word. The author needs to save it as word 97 format. Default format is not backwards compatible.

Try to open the document with OpenOffice. It is free.
