hey guys/gals.

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on these two laptops as im considering making a purchase before starting university ;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Alienware-Notebook-SU7300-Premium/dp/B004R9PZ32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313488703&sr=8-1

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/21427678/-/Product.html

I currently own a decent gaming desktop however im abit out the loop in regards to laptops/netbooks. I gather that from the description that the Acer has better specs though?

Games im likley to play are Fallout 3/NV, Oblivion , L4D2 , Just Cause etc.

Any opinions on these two would be appreciated!

Cheers

That Acer would play all (Or at least most) of those games at max settings. The Alienware is using an old Core 2 duo running at just above 1 GHZ while the Acer is using a new Sandy Bridge Core i5.

Also the 540M will perform better than any card in that Alienware just because the Alienware is using a slow processor.

Verdict: That Acer is waaaaay better because its a newer model. I know that it will max every game you listed except Just Cause because I have never played it.

Yeah i was concerned about the Alienwares CPU espeically with more games being released requiring strong multi-core. I cant help but be enthralled by the look of Alienware and all its gimmicky lights, like a moth to a flame.

Is there any other noteworthy laptops for around the same price ? £500 which is about $800 i believe.

Cheers for the advice!

Acually that is the exact same price range that I'm looking at. I am in the US so you'll have to find the same model on another website but this ASUS looks awesome.

http://www.amazon.com/A53SV-XE1-15-6-Inch-Versatile-Entertainment-Laptop/dp/B0052D5BY0

It has a Quad core i7, a 540m GPU, and 6 gigs of RAM for exactly $800/£500. That would play all of the games you listed and may even play Skyrim on Medium-low settings.

Also, I agree with what you said about the Alienware, They look more kick ass than any other computer but you end up paying for the brand name and the gimmicks when you could be paying for a better processor and a better GPU.

ASUS also has 2 1 year warranties, The normal warranty and one for accidentally dropping it or spilling something on it within the first year.
