I need some opinions here. I'm looking to get a new HSF for my XP 1800.

I want the best cooler I can get. Price is irrelevant, and so is noise to me. I want air coolers only, no water or air conditioner type coolers.

I was looking at <A HREF="http://www.cpufx.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=o&Product_Code=C&Category_Code=HSAFU" target="_new">This HSF</A> According to reviews it does well nearing the performance of the swiftech mcx462.

Any other good ones out there?

The alphapal8045 with a good pabst or sunon 80mm fan is very nice, and whisper quiet too.

That one is new to me.

Thermaltake Volcano 7+ and Thermalright AX-7 are also good choices.

The core, it looks like the hive version 2, the hive did well, but the swiftech and the alphapal outperform it.

80mm hsfs allow you to use 80mm fans which are very quiet and cool very well, I would avoid any 60mm hsf now a days.

I have the Swiftech and it performs extremely well, but it sounds like a wind tunnel. I don't overclock so I put a quieter fan on. I did sacrifice a few degrees but it rarely goes over 40 degrees C.

You should keep in mind that this heatsink is held in place with four screws which are secured with four nuts which are tightened from the bottom of the motherboard. Ergo, you have to remove your motherboard in order to install or remove it. It's kind of a pain in the butt, but with it's excessive weight it has to be mounted directly to the motherboard. If it wasn't it would probably break the tabs off the socket.

One other thing to consider is thermal compound. Get a good thermal compound with silver in it like Arctic Silver. That alone will keep things a couple of degrees cooler.

I can't think of a good signature so I'll use this one.

if money really isnt an object and neither is noise, go with the swiftech and a really powerful delta fan. I personally choise the thermalright AX-7 with a thermaltake fan (noise was an issue). There is a huge list of heatsinks ranked from best to worst on overclockers.com Hope that helps

No, just cut a hole in the mounting plate so you can access the board behind the CPU, then whenever you want to remove it you can just pop off the cover on both sides.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?
