Ok, I don’t know if this will be of any help but my cousin had similar problem.
Did you download DirectX 9? Because if you did it, might be just that? And if you are the type that installs and uninstalls frequently you might need to reformat, XP starts to flip when you install and uninstall often, but don’t do that, wait for others to help you. For now only if you did install directX 9, try to reinstall 8.0a or 8.1 DirectX, but I am telling you, if after you wait and try some stuff from me or others, from my cousin’s Xperience the only way was to reformat and no other question asked (it worked). But we will never Know if it was actually that the problem? But it started doing that right after his installation of the frea…. DirectX 9? By logic??????

a little note to cheer you up from humor.com

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire
to become a great writer.

When asked to define great, he said, "I want to write stuff that
the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a
truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl
in pain and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft writing error messages
