I just capture some video from my DV and I use Nero 5.8 to convert it into a VCD. When I paly the VCD on my computer, the sound will come out later than the video. Why.

Did the problem happen to the captured video before you converted it into vcd? BTW, Nero 5.8 has been released already?

No, it didn't happen while it was in AVI format.

The problem might have to do with Nero which isn't very good at encoding Mpeg videos. I suggest you convert your AVI files to MPG files first using other "good" software. Then you can use Nero to write the Mpeg videos directly onto a VCD.

I did that and it fix the problem. But the picture is not as good. What other software would you recommand.

Many NLE software such as Premiere 6.5 are pretty good converting AVI to MPG format. But those software are expensive and take up lots of your system's resources. In other words, they are s-l-o-w in converting videos.

I recommend a free software called TMPGenc which I'm using now for making Mpeg1 videos. The pro version (which extends the conversion capability to Mpeg2) is not free though. Here is their official site:

And this web page will guide you through step-by-step on using TMPGenc:

Actually this same site provides lots of other helpful info on video conversions.

Good luck and have fun. :)

I've had the same problem. As far as I can tell it's either that Nero is not good for encoding VCD's or my 1Ghz CPU isn't pulling enough weight.
