Hey, I am finally gunna order my components from new egg. I just want to make sure of some things first.

I know this has been asked before, but i don't know where: Arent all the athlon xp's the same? they are just warenteed to operate faster, so couldn't i get like a 1800 and just up the fsb till it is to the desired (safe) speed? Athlon mp's are unlocked so could I get like a 1500 and oc it to like a 2100, or am i missing something here?

Also, if I had a good hsf to keep it cool, could I just up the bus to like 166 to match the fsb on a mobo with a kt333 chipset? (i doubt i could, i don't hear of many peeps doing this.)

Final question: If i use my comp for games, photoshop and 3dsmax and some html editing, what would be the best hdd combo? Would i see a performance difeerence if i stripped 2 wd1000jb's or would one of them do fine? Or would striping 2 maxtor ata 133's be better?

Of course I plan to go with the Gigabyte GA-7VRXP with 512 megs of corsair pc 2700 cas 2 ram and a Gforce 4 ti 4200! that should smoke!

Thanks for your input, i will run some benchmarks on it once it is built!

yes, all xps are the same, just different clock speeds, yes you can over clock them, probly not that high but, yea.

you may be able to get to 166 fsb, probably.

games, html and 3d modeling? wow you better get 8 drives and stripe them all, then maybe you will have enough speed, especialy for the html editing part!!! bah! one drive is plenty fast, only reason you would need faster is if you were capturing video.

you shot who in the what now?

About the overclocking part, you could technically get up to the 166MHz bus, if you got a hugely flukely chip. Other than that, I've heard people have unlocked their multiplier and set it lower and set the FSB to 166, so that they could use fully the bandwidth of the 333MHz DDR RAM.

I don't know much about those programs, since I only play games, but you souldn't need all that much computing power. what you're getting should be plenty good enough. Athlon MPs probably aren't your best choice if that's what you're going to be doing. There's a video here somewhere to show you how to unlock those XPs.

'UPPING' the fsb also puts strain on other components. this may cauz your PC to not be stable.
also you ram has to be up to the challenge.

Thanks for the advice, but I am one of those guys that want it to be the best for the sake of being the best. In a sense, I want bragging rights. I think as long as I get some good corsair pc3000 c2.0 ram, i should be good to go.

Thanks for the advice
