Well I had a 1270 laptop that was in service for 2 out of the 3 months that I owned. In that time It had the screen replaced, the battery charger replaced twice, the power inverter/charging system was replace, and the battery was replaced twice. Why was this you ask? Well it seemed that when ever you left the machine turned off and unplugged for lets say 6-12 hours, the battery would loose 25-30% of its charge. It could be fully charged, shut down, then unplugged and still lose power. Being this wasnt the most power conservative beast of burden starting off with 70-75% battery life and no plug in kinda sucks. Being I worked as a Best Buy tech I just got my GM to approve a exchange. Another thing can we say proprietary? Compaq are some of the worst when it comes to that. Not to mention the fact that you divide the hard drive into an ondisk recovery. If the computer worked worth a crap would you really need a recovery on the hard disk? The only reason that I got that compaq laptop was that it had good features for the money, aka cheap....and cheap it was. Also as a tech I got to work on all your nice little "Compact" "Compaq" systems. the best ones were the models you had to swing the motherboard out to upgrade ram. Is that enough reasons to justify that Compaq sucks? Not to mention, reason enough for me to never own another one and to not recommend them to anybody that asks me?
