Hello community,

This is my first time posting here and I am here looking for some advice to build my first gaming PC. I want my PC to be able to play games like Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2, Skyrim and few other games without any lag, let's say in a smooth 60 fps.

I have a budget of £1000 and I live in England. My preferable choice of CPU is AMD phenom II x4 965 Black Edition; heard it is a best CPU for gaming for a reasonable price. And I am not too sure what other parts suits the best for this particular CPU (including peripherals such as mouse, keyboard and the monitor).

I would appreciate any type of help and advice. Thanks in advance :)

With a 1k budget I wouldn't buy a Phenom II 965BE its more a budget builders CPU

Here is what I would do

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Processor
http://www.cclonline.com/product/73989/BX80637I53570K/C...

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Motherboard
http://www.cclonline.com/product/78336/GA-Z77X-UD3H/Mot...

Palit GeForce GTX 670 Jetstream Graphics Card
http://www.cclonline.com/product/82247/NE5X670H1042-104...

OCZ ZS Series 650W Power Supply 80+ Plus Bronze
http://www.cclonline.com/product/60912/OCZ-ZS650W-UK/Po...

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
http://www.cclonline.com/product/76740/RR-212E-16PK-R1/...

Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9 LP Vengeance Memory 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Two Module Kit
http://www.cclonline.com/product/61774/CML8GX3M2A1600C9...

Seagate Barracuda 500GB Hard Drive
http://www.cclonline.com/product/66223/ST500DM002/Hard-...

CCL Choice 22x DVD+/-RW Drive
http://www.cclonline.com/product/92980/CCL-DVDRW-BLK-52...

Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case
http://www.cclonline.com/product/79782/CCC-AE37BS-U02/C...

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
http://www.cclonline.com/product/55272/GFC-02050/Operat...

BenQ G2320HDBL 23" LCD Monitor
http://www.cclonline.com/product/71934/9H-L7SLA-TPE/Mon...

Total £979 (leaves you enough for a basic keyboard and mouse)

That will max out anything you throw at it for a while to come. When it eventually starts to age you can overclcok the CPU and toss in another GTX670, if you dont want the option to OC or SLi another graphics card then

Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Motherboard
http://www.cclonline.com/product/78345/GA-B75M-D3H/Moth...

Intel Core i5 (3570) 3.4GHz Processor
http://www.cclonline.com/product/95817/BX80637I53570/CP...

And dont buy the 212 EVO CPU cooler use the stock one

That would save you around £85

or if you really really want to go AMD

AMD FX-8320 Eight Core CPU
http://www.cclonline.com/product/93470/FD8320FRHKBOX/CP...

Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Motherboard (Need to ensure this has had the BIOS update for Vishera CPU's)
http://www.cclonline.com/product/62749/GA-990FXA-UD3/Mo...

That would save you about £50 on the original Intel build

3570k is the 2500k replacement I wouldn't buy the older one it may overclock a little more but you lose out on the newer features and the newer one is faster clock for clock so makes up for the difference OC'ing. Also the older one costs about the same.

If you really want the 2500k though just do the 3570k build but use a 2500k

wr6133 has made a great list, I think I'd think along the same lines if I were to be looking in your budget.
