My friend gave me a Compaq Presario F700 laptop today because he said it did not work so I decided to give it a try to fix it.

This is the problem:
Every time I hit the power button, the laptop's lights light up for a second then just dies. I tried starting it while being charged but the same thing happened.
I dont hear the CPU fan start or anything else. It just sounds dead.

What I tried to figure out what was wrong:
I took the HD out and I was able to run it with another computer. So it wasnt a HD issue.
I replaced the RAM with another working RAM, same problem occurred, so I know that its not a RAM problem.

Is there anything I can try to run to see what is wrong so I can know what to replace?
I need some help :(

Sounds like the mobo died, i had alot of these last year at the help desk i worked at. It was either the mobo or the graphics card that died and you would have to replace the mobo either way with that.

Unfortunately because its a laptop its not easy to test the mobo with a tester because its so hard to get to, you could try a multimeter but without a lot of experience with testing a laptop mobo you might just be wasting time.
