Most likely a short circuit somewhere on socket. Check for any debris in the hole.

I have a ACER Aspire laptop with Realtek HD Audio Manager. When I plug headphones into the jack. The PC give me a message in the lower right hand side of the screen. Now I could be wrong but, tutrn the PC on it's side and look into the jack, there might be something making a connection in the jack. Might be worth a shot.
