Does anyone know where I could find an open-source time-tracking project?

Ideally it would work as follows:

I can install it on my system, it would track 'active' time spent in applications, and then give me reports.

ex.

Today -
Microsoft office: 64 minutes
Firefox: 84 minutes
Thunderbird: 22 minutes

It would also need the sophistication to determine when I was 'active' in an application, and not be ticking the timer when I am in the other room playing with my cats but have the window open (afk).

Cheers to anyone who has any idea as to where I could find something like this.

You can try this. This page would give you a lot of information on the advantage and disadvantage in using the software. There are many software mentioned on that article and it's up to you choose the best one that suites you.

Replicon's Time tracking software seems to be a good choice for all your requirements. I have been using it since 4 years without any difficulty and very much satisfied with their services.

Outstandingly good interface--very easy for everyone to use. Lots of flexibility and power that's also easy to configure. It runs in a browser so it's also easy for your workers to log their time.
