I have just rebuilt my computer, new PSU, Elite K7S5A board, 256MB DDR and an Athlon XP 1900+ CPU.

I have finally got windows running again, but on the BIOS boot page it says Athlon 1200MHZ CPU detected, and lists the Processor Speed as 1200 MHz

Although I am aware the XP 1900+ does not have a clock speed of 1900 MHz, I see from the AMD web site that is about 1600 MHz

Am I to deduce my CPU is faulty ?

Would welcome any helpful suggestions

Thanks

Kevin

Go into bios and check what your FSB speed is. You want it to be 133 not 100. 12 X 100 = 1200 but 12 X 133 = 1596

Yeah this happens a lot. If you had like a t-bird in there before with a 100MHZ DDR bus, then you'r XP would be running the same FSB. Looks like that's your problem. Raise it to 133MHz and should be fine.

My firewall tastes like burning.

Thanks for that, have just reset to 133 MHz and now Athlon 1900 + is detected, Processor speed 1600

All is finally working as it should be !

Thanks once again
