How do I know if I am getting a 1.8A. What should I look for? What socket# should I get?

TIA

If it has 512k of cache its an A, if it has 256 its a willamette, make sure to get the 512k version.

i hope you're joking. Are you telling me that you can't match a processor model/number with what you see in retail and online stores?

Maybe you're thrown off by the 'A' suffix of a 1.8, but most retailers (on or offline) will add the 'A' to the 1.8 on their product listing and you need the Socket 478 NOT 423. If you don't see the 'A' and you're not sure then just ask what the size of the L2 cache is. Northwood ['A'] P4's have a L2 cache of 512k

Uh...I hope that helps you

And you want socket 478. If anyone even tries to sell you a socket 423 processor, laugh in their face.

Dude...lay off the caffeine....I just went to pricewatch and I did not notice any of the 1.8's on the page saying A beside them, so I thought I would ask an expert. Instead, I get an expert who also happens to be a a-hole.

I could see if i didn't even answer your question and made jokes the whole time. But I efficiently answered your question, so calm down and relax. Some people are so touchy on Tom's Forums. It was just a joke, and a little one at that!
