Have visited VIA site and yes, they indeed
promote C3 as a multimedia CPU, too bad.

Trying to enhance sales trough false promotion
only is going to hurt the image of
a very fine secuential CPU.

I use C3 only on non mulimedia aplications
use low overhead GPU and audio chipsets
just for replay, never for producing media.

My Pentium 133MHz was considered a multimedia processor way back when. Was that false advertisement?

Yes, I always found that strange too. They touted it as "multimedia" yet there was no media to speak of. "Media" back then meant that it could read and display images in 16-bit color. Multimedia nowadays means simply being able to play movies when it's advertised by via, gateway, dell. To users multimedia is supposed to mean fast MP3 encoding, DVD playback, fast and reliable CD burning, and of course Mpeg-4. None of which the C3 can muster up.

There is, however, one good purpose for the C3 (in my opinion). Since computers make so much noise today, a C3 is perfectly optimized for someone who hates computer fan noise and vibration. With it, not only could you passively cool it (or use a fan you can't hear running at 1000rpm) but you could get away with a very low watt power supply.

Censorship makes us so much more creative.
