Trying to install windows 7 on new hard drive via usb/

Hello, i just replaced my HDD and now trying to install windows 7 home on the laptop via a USB.
As for the steps I've taken
1. went to boot menu and selected USB as the first boot source
2. Selected and saved the option
3. In the boot screen selected USB (recognized)
After the last step at the top left corner it states "missing operating system" am i doing something wrong.

i wouldn't know but maybe looking at this video will help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi_FNnrr5DE
    it worked for me.
if this doesn't work then it could be that the motherboard doesn't like that usb drive or that it only supports certain usb sticks
  2. how did you make the usb bootable?

have used some softwares before and had issues

but doing it in command prompt has never failed me
