What heat sink/fan combo would you recommend putting on a athlon xp 1700+ to keep it running nice and cool. I don't much like the idea of running the one that comes with it.

Thx

Are you going to overclock?

If not, then the one that's included is fine.
If you are, then get the Alpha PAL8045, but make sure it'll fit on your motherboard first.

If your not overclocking the one that comes with it is fine.

Anyone who tells you different is either an idiot or a liar, I dare you to justify why the stock hsf is not good enough to run the cpu at stock.

The fud about heatsinks and amd chips in particuler is tiresome, I wish people would stop being suckered into the fud and start thinking for themdamnselves.

There's nothing wrong with the retail heatsink, but if you want something else here is a good review site:

Im sorry, I answered your question, and corrected your mistake, hardly a worthless reply, what was a worthless post was you asking what heatsink you will need to spend extra money on because you fell for someones fud the stock hsf isnt good enough, enjoy spending that extra 20 bucks you dont need to because your too ignorant to listen to someones advice.

go grab a themaltake volcano 7 or 7+
7 is fine if u r on a tight budget.

the stock heatsink is perfectly fine if you are running at stock speeds. dont waste your time and money getting a different one.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

Reply to rcj187

if the stock heatsink didn't work, why would they supply it in the first place?

u only need a better one if
A. you want to be different
B. you want to spend money
C. you overclock
or
D. you are going to use your system in temperature extremes.
