What is the screen resolution for a 17 5 laptop ?

What should the resolution be on a 17.5'' laptop. Have lost the start menu, as well as the taskbar at the bottom, and thought that maybe the resolution is not right, and not showing the taskbar and start menu.

Most common is 1600 x 900
Smaller percentage, and generally more expensive - 1920 x 1080
Also go to control panel -> Appearance & Personalization -> Task bar & start menu, Make sure it is not auto hide
Would help if you included the Make/model.

If you buy directly from the vendor like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. a 1920x1080 may be an optional upgrade if the standard resolution is 1600x900.

don't think Lenovo has a viable 17 inch laptop with 1920 x 1080.

only one with that resolution option is a Dell XPS 17 if I remember right.

like RetiredChief said, most is unfortunately 1600 x 900 (cheaper)... kind of like how 1366 x 768 is the norm now.

manufacturers rather do "HD" (where 720p fits in as HD) in their marketing vs real usable resolution. le sigh.
