What's the best AMD to buy right now?

I've been half way done with another system for about 3 months now. I'm still unsure of what AMD XP to go for. Price really isn't an issue for me when dealing with the procs. Should I go to the top dog or will the performance almost be the same with a lower model? I'm a hardcore 3D gamer. I probably won't OC the proc either (although I may). Any sugestions would be great!!

Thanks

Well, if you are going to overclock, then you go Intel. But for AMD, there are a few ways to go right now.

1-Get a 2200+ thouroughbred, the "fastest" Athlon out there...so far, overclocking has had sobering results, and it only is marginally faster than the 2100 anyway. About $260 or so US.

2-Get an 1800+, good speed, good price, only about $100 US.

3-Overclock a 1700+/1800+ using higher FSBs (166Mhz seems popular) or, unlock the L1 bridges, and lower the multiplier, allowing for higher FSBs in some cases.

I have not seen any Tbred XP 1800+ overclocks. Do you have any links on this?

As you can see from the above images we were able to successfully run our CPU at 1.83GHz (10*183). Not only were we able to get in and take a couple of screen shots, we were able to run a whole suite of benchmark tests with the CPU proving to be completely stable at over the "2200+" rating. These benchmarks will be in our EPoX 8K3A+ mainboard review and we will directly compare them to a stock 2200+ and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed.

There ya go.

Thanks for the links.

It is beginning to look like I will be able to recommend the Tbred XP 1800+ to overclockers too.

Yeah, imo.

If you have a vested interest in amd(like a kickass kr7a mobo and 1 gig ddr ram) the 1800+ is a worthy choice over the 1.6a.

But in general I would get a p4 and overclock that, but 2300+ for 100 bucks is FAR from shabby.

From that article.....
"We could run our 1.53GHz part stable at 155F at 1.83GHz without issue"
Hmm, let's say that to ourselves.....Part stable, without issue.....If it's part stable, I would think there was issue, no? Ridiculous.

Better spend the $$ on a high quality HS&F, or settle for "part stable".

I sold my sig for $50.
