Is that really what it would cast there? If it is then this paints a picture of how bad we are getting screwed. I know that everyone has their opinoins as to why gas has gone to its current prices, but I have yet to see any compelling work done by a journalist that really sheds light as to where the price gouging occurs in the supply chain. This is something that not only the public should be aware of, but its also something that could be exposed with a few contacts and some investigation.

I do know how you can get fuel at significantly lower prices, but it does require that you get a group of people together on the deal. If you buy 12000 gallons or more at one time the price diff per gallon is 30 cents maybe up to 50 cents less. That sounds like alot of fuel, but its really not if you can find 11 farmers that will agree to each bring the farm gas tank"1000 gallons" to the delivery site, you can save some bucks. Its somewhat of a headache, but worth it if you know enough people to bring it all together.

I heard a report. If gas costs $3 per gallon it was broken up to something like 55 cents for taxes, 10 cents to the station, $1.35 to the refinery, and $1 for gallon of crude.

They justified the profits by the fact that the oil industry invested billions and now their investment is paying off.

Seems odd considering there hasn't been a refinery built in 30 years.

I could easily get 1200 people together to fill up at the same time for 50 cents less.

Your very close on the tax and what the retailer makes. In MS. there are 2 taxes that each are .18 and then another small one that brings the total to around 45 cents. As for the retailer, that has been changing since the storms. There is more of a margin there than before. I see to many wide gaps between towns and stations for the margin to have not increased.

Im sure the truck driver would be more than happy to fill 1200 individual cans

Being able to have that much delivered to an individual raises many concerns for me. I would have thought that it would have been regulated more than that. I never would have even thought of doing this if it hadnt been for the storm. I dont know how many times I went back and forth to other states to get gas in the first few days after the storm, but considering that I loaded 700+ gallons a trip im sure it would be around 5000 Gallons. I would stop at truck stops and talk to the drivers that were hauling anything considered hazourdous Materials. If it werent for them, I wouldnt have known which direction to go to find fuel. The truck only got around 12miles to the gallon so it would have been easy to have gotten stranded. Sorry, I went off on a tangent, what I was trying to say is that I made some good contacts on the road. If I can can get that much fuel so can anyone else that puts their mind to it. Think of how that much fuel could be used against us by the WRONG people.

How much was the bill? Did you hear about the idiot that ran up over $200,000.00 on his credit card? It was on one of the morning radio talk shows. He lied to his wife about where he was going and ahd been then lost over 200K in teh casino. The credit card company would call each hour and verify that it was him and finally even made him stop long enough to have his finger prints taken and e-mailed so that they could verify with his prints on record. This arsehole should be shot.

The guy at the stripper joint? Yeah.

They get the guy drunk and let him charge forever. He's not going to have to pay it since you are supposed to stop serving people when they get like that. They were taking everything literally too. He says, "everyone should get some water". They then give everyone a bottle of water and charge the guy $800 and something. AMEX was also apparently approving everything and just saying he was good for the money.

They'll never collect a dime.

Either the story has totally gotten fubared or we are talking about 2 different things. I do remember something about him being at a strip joint at one point, but on the radio they said that he was at a casino, he lost 200K, and I think it was American Express. Your probably correct, these Arses on the morning radio thrive on rumors.

I saw in the newspaper today an article about this idiot weve been talking about. You were correct, it was a strip joint and no casino. Someone must have just called in before the radio station got the scoop because they were saying that he lost the money at the slots.

This sux! They arent exactly living the good life in Venenzuela. I dont think the trade off between living here or there is worth the savings for gas.

No, what's screwed is your perception. You don't ask questions, you jump to conclusions. The correct question would be "HOW do they get it so cheap?" And the correct answer would be "The oil industry in Venezuala is a Government run monopoly, who SUBSIDIZES gasoline to it's citizens by CHARGING OFF the costs of those subsidies to their foreign customers".

Yes, the reason it's so cheap there is because they overcharge us. They actually sell gasoline to their own citizens at a financial loss, which they make up by charging us more.

First, you can go fock yourself!

If anyone jumped to conclusions it would be you. Youve jumped to all sorts of conclusions about what I said and your way off base. It should be common knowledge to anyone that actively watches the news and/or reads the paper that the gov in Venezuala runs their oil industry. I dont need to ask HOW because its obvious. The thing that surprised me was that it was so cheap for their citizens. I didnt know that the gov. there was this generous to its citizens. It surprised me that it doesnt mark up fuel more than it does. I hadnt thought about what the consumer pays for gas and when HB threw up such a low number it told me one obvious thing. There is one hell of a gap between .12 and 2.90 a gallon. I have no idea how you could take what I said and turn it into something that it wasnt meant to be.

Thanks for pissing in my cereal now I can go out and be pissed all day over nothing.

WTF d00d. Your first post read like "if they're paying 16 cents a gallon and we're paying several dollars a gallon, that shows how badly we're getting stuck" when I was pointing out that the two could not be compared because their government sells them fuel at a loss. So it doesn't show anything. A more accurate comparison would be to look at Russia's oil prices, they calculated reasonable prices and fixed their buying price at $24/barrel. Gasoline should be around $1.20-1.50 a gallon after taxes, delivery, station profit, etc, so $1.50 would be a better comparison to how badly we're getting ripped off than $0.16

I just want Ethanol to take hold as a vehicle fuel here in the states. That has real potential for lessening fuel prices.

Ethanol is another federally funded project. It actually cost more than gasoline to produce. With kickbacks to the farmers for turning their corn into fuel it costs taxpayers to subsidise the program.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Reply to Rick_Criswell

IIRC, ethanol has been successful down in Brazil as a replacemnet fuel. The expense is more than likely due to the limited usage and distribution chains. Once the proper infrastructure was in place, then the costs should subside. Wouldn't that get the fuel companies panties in a wad. Anything related to that would get a big punch in the eye whenever the oil companies got a chance. It's probably why it hasn't taken off so far.
