I have a Hp Pavilion Slimline s5310f PC and i have a Flat screen TV and a 19" LCD monitor. I just purchased a VGA y-splitter so i can connect both of these monitors together so i can multitask but it keeps showing a mirroring image of each other. What do i have to do so i can have both monitors not showing a mirroring image and have them stretch the screen across both of them for better performance and productivity? Also it is not allowing me to detect another device.

A splitter does exactly what its name implies, it splits a single signal in two. Multiple monitor support requires multiple outputs from the video card.
