are you sure its heat or could it be a voltage problem? What mobo do you have?

Also...make sure the hsf is mounted properly with not too much thermal compound if you are using it, or if ur not, make sure the thermal pad is in working condiotn (no paper, etc attached.)

I've been using my 1800XP for about 3 months without any problems using the stock fan, but lately it's occasionally been locking up. I get a CPU temp of 51C just using the internet. Don't know much about hardware, so any ideas would be welcome.

Summer's here. :) Which part of the country are you in? Check on case ventilation or perhaps invest in a better HSF. The stock AMD HSF may not cut it at room temperatures above 80°F.

Yes there is something that you can do. Many case fans are 4 pin, which plug directly into ur power supply. If the ones you bought are not, you can buy some adapters for dirt cheap. Its better to have them that way anyway as not to draw extra power from your motherboard.

their is a problem what the mobo running at the fsb 133. Does it freeze up in mid load of windows or does it run for 5 min and then load. How often does it happen when you run at the 1.53ghz speed? If it freezes up on loading windows it's most likely not a heating problem.

i think the problem is really a processor overheating. IMO he can run it at 1.15Ghz.

MELTY, so glad to see you're using a more appropriate name now.

Just two question: what is your room temp? And are you using Motherboard monitor to check temps? Is the best software.
