Hello !

I'm from Poland , so my English is not good :-) .

In department ( ? ) " HowTo " A New Lease On Life - How To Make Your PC 5 Times Faster , Tom wrote:

Currently, processors (Pentium III) for Slot 1 up to 1000 MHz are still available in stores. Since the multiplier on all Pentium III processors is hard-wired, hardly any problems crop up in reality. Coming back to our Abit BX6, any Pentium III CPU could have been used on it. ... "

Really any PIII ? I have mainboard type Abit BX6 v. 2.0 + celeron 300A . In nearest time I going to do change my CPU . Will PIII 1 GHz Coppermine with FSB 133 in casing CECC2 on Slot 1 be working on my mainboard ?

I expect that Tom something exaggerate . Why Tom don't test first on PIII 1 GHz ?

Thanks . Greetings .

You can probably replace it with a p3, the question is why would you, for the cost of a p3 1ghz you can get a whole motherboard and an amd 1800+, upgrading an old board is not worth it anymore.

Matt is right. Even a P4 Northwood is coming with better performance vs price right now.

Unless you have a specific reason not to go near these other options, I'd think about it.

To get a coppermine CPU on a slot 1 setup , you'll need a converter thingy (forget the name). that means more money too. This is assuming the mobo will take CPUs like that, which I doubt.

yes you can run any P3 in your board. With a few restrictions.

You must have PC133 memory or memory capable of running 133fsb.

You must use a slot converter with adjustable Vcore settings or adjust the processor Vcore manually for socket 370 cpus.
You must have a videocard capable of running on a 89mhz agb bus. Most all Geforce2,3,4 and Radeon cards will run at this speed.

If you can do all of the 3 things listed above you can run any P3 and maybe even the Tualatin chips. If you are interested in the 1.13, 1.2, 1.4etc p3 check the powerleap site to see if your board is compatable.

I aint signing nothing!!!
