Hi i am building a computer for my boss he uses his computer for regular stuff internet, word processing etc.. but he also has grandchildren which i'm pretty sure will try to play some games on the system. Heres what i thought would be good for him any critisism would be much apreciated thank you.
All the funds are in candian dollars except for the totals where i have both.

Athlon XP 1700 1.47GHz- 145.98 Crawford
ASUS A7N266-Cwa(nForce)- 155.98 Crawford
DDR PC-2100 512MB (256MB*2)- 111.98 Crawford
Maxtor(60.0gb, 7200rpm)- 125.88 Crawford
Lite-on(40X-12X-48X)- 106.00 Canada
AOpen KF45A-P4A(Mid, 6 Bays)- 27.98 Crawford
AOpen FM56-SV 56K V.90- 23.00 Canada
Enermax EG365P-VE - 350 watt- 65.95 Crawford
Panasonic OEM: Floppy Drive- 20.97 Crawford

Total: $783.72(can) $512.50(US)
with taxes: $901.28 $589.74(US)
+$50(can) Miscelaneous

I wanted something low budget but that would last him awhile. Thx for any input.

The only thing i know...

is that i know nothing.

First I think you'll get a better price vs MHz with an 1800+ or 1900+. Not sure about prices over yonder. Check out Pricewatch

What about a decent gfx card? Be better than all that RAM.

You sure it's for your boss?

Yes it is for my boss and he claims that he doesn't play video games(he is also 65) so i figured the built in graphics are enough. I think that amount of ram is reasonable especially with Win XP pro plus its only $50(can) or $32(US) more. I moved from 256MB to 512MB myself and found a noticeable improvement. What do you think about the Nforce board good move?

The only thing i know...

is that i know nothing.

I build with these boards all the time, mostly msi boards, but I have used the Asus boards also.

Its a good board, stable. But the C version is the 415 chipset, not the 420 chipset. It has everything but the onboard video......:)

If I remember, you want the E....its better than the original board.....

Also look at the MSI K7N420 Pro.......its another board that is good.....

The all in one driver packege from Nvidia is good and stable.....

Get the A7N266-E. It's got the better sound (Than the A7N266 or the MSI board), built in graphics, and the built in NIC.

English is phun.
