Ok, im looking to buy a completely new comp. Ive had an Athlon 600 for a couple years now and have only had problems with it...so im looking for a good p4 that I can OC. My budget is around $600 US and im looking for a board that supports DDR/RAID. I have heard good things about Northwood chips so im looking at buying one of those. In total I need to buy the cpu, mb, ram, hd(s), vid card, and case.
Can any of you put together a system that meets those specs and costs around $600? Thanks for your time.
For: $667... Hmm... you'll probably be able to cut back a bit if you want a R8500... The BD7R seems to be very good, although some people had problems with booting up after overclocking. A BIOS flash seemed to do that trick.
whats the difference between retail and not retail? On some sites i see the same item but the retail version sells for like $20 more, does it come with a warranty or something?
Also, what site has the best prices/availability? A friend directed me to newegg.com and i used to use tigerdirect.com, Im curious to find out where the best prices can be found. And thanks Chuck for your help, at first i thought i couldnt afford a GF4 Ti with everything else, great to know!
Retail comes with a 3 year warranty, but by overclocking, you'll void that. That's not really the point though. The retail CPUs come with a HSF that is perfect for overclocking, but if you want to do extreme overclocking, then get an OEM and get a better HSF/watercooling/other means.
I used newegg.com. They seem very reliable and good prices too. Well, it is over by ~$70, so I dunno, you decide.
