Well I am new to this fourm and I am having a bit of a problem with my new system which I have recently got which would be the ECS K7S5A Motherboard and a Athlon XP 1800+ CPU.

Ok here is the problem, My PC freezes up every time I go to play games i.e. Quake 3, ect (anything that makes the CPU go a full load), but here is the strange thing I go to the BIOS and change the MHz range to 100 MHz from 133 MHz and it run's like a dream other than that I think I could spend a few more bucks to get a decent Heat Sink fan!

Any idea's on what might be wong.

What temperatures are you running at, idle and under load? It´s probably the PSU though, the K7S5A needs a good quality PSU to run stable with the Athlon 1800+, 350-400W. It might run stable on some 300W Enermax, Antec or Codegen PSUs.

i cant stress how much trouble this motherboard has with the 133fsb. If you don't believe me, check the Knowledge base at their web site

It seems you get a 50/50 chance in getting a good board or one that will only run correctly at 100fsb. I'm told that sometimes using 1 stick of ram instead of both will fix it, but it is rare to find a board like that.

I agree with jankphil. I've had 4 or 5 of these boards that wouldn't work at the 133fsb but were fine at the 100fsb. I switched to the Shuttle AK31A mobo for a just a few dollars more and they all perform without problems and are faster than the working K7S5A I have.
