I have a 1.2GHz Duron CPU right now (not overclocked at all). Since I have the retail version w/ a 3-year warranty I will not unlock the L1 bridges for fear of voiding the warranty.
Anyway, does the Duron use the same performance ratings as the Athlon XP? At 1.2 GHz is my processor running at "1500+" (comparable to P4 1.5 GHz), or is that only for Athlon?
What about Tbird? I mean, what is the equivalence of an Tbird 1.4? If I'm not wrong, AMD didn't do the calculations but I'm sure it's posible to make a comparison. Maybe some site has done it, I don't know. Anyone has an idea?
It is supposed to be that an XP 1400+ (so around 1250 Mhz) is comparable to a TB 1400Mhz. That was the original statement from AMD.
Now AMD does also say that an 1800+ outperforms a P4 1800Mhz in some tests, and doesn't in others. So it can kinda be compared that way, depending on what you want to use it for.
Duron Morgan core has almost the same performance (sometimes better) than Tbird if you unlock the multiplier and raise the FSB up to 133 MHz.
My tests:
Duron Morgan 1100 MHz at 8.5*133=1130 MHz has the same performance than Tbird 1133 MHz.
Duron Morgan 1200 MHz at 9*133 MHz=1197 MHz beats the Tbird 1133 MHz.
Test System: MSI KT3 Ultra, Samsung PC2700 at CAS 2, Maxtor 7200 RPM
With Morgan core is also possible to raise the FSB even up to 166 MHz with no problems at all
