I am just about set to build my first computer; however, I am not quite sure if everything I have chosen fits together properly, so I would appreciate any suggestions. I do not plan to do any overclocking.

Well, first thing that somes to mind would be to get an Intel system. I dunno, if you're getting a XP2100+, you'll get a P4 2.0A for the same price and with overclocking, it'll be way faster. I'll se if I can dig up an Intel system for ~$1000.

P4 2.26B NW 512K Retail - $274
ABIT BD7II LAN/Sound/USB 2.0 Retail - $113
512MB Corsair PC2700 XMS CMX512-2700C2 OEM - $165
VGA LEADTEK Geforce4 TI4400 128M VIVO Retail - $258
WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 80GB 7200RPM WD800JB - $114
SONY 1.44MB 3.5 INCH INTERNAL FDD DRIVE OEM - $8
Lite On 32x12x40 CDRW Model LTR-32123S Retail Box - $62
CHIEFTEC Server Chasis DX-01WD-420W w/ 420W PSU - $65

$1059. The should get to 2.8GHz easily and the video card overclocks very well too. I'd suggest adding an Creative Audigy sound card for ohh... $60. It'll give a lot better sound than the onboard. Also, the HDD is the 8MB cache version, very nice. And the MSI card's fan is pretty loud from what everyone says. So just another suggestion. BTW, that case is like an Antec SX1040.

Easier to reach "533" bus with the 1.8A.

Yeah, just the 2.26B seems to be able to get to 3GHZ  .

i agree with chuck, go intel. however i think you should get a 1.8a or 1.6a. even though you say you dont plan on overclocking, you should. its not that hard. once you get your stuff, just put a post up and say "how do i overclock", and everyone will tell you how.

also, i have the MSI GeFOrce 4 Ti 4400. the fan doesn't seem too loud, but maybe thats because i have 3 case fans, the fan on the heatsink, and the power supply fans. its hard to tell what is loud. last i checked the MSI was $229 at newegg, and thats roughly $30 cheaper.

i have the exact same HD that chuck mentioned and it works great with the 8 mb cache. (and $114 is pretty cheap, compare that to a HD at bestbuy or somewhere else and you'll be saving a lot. )

and just one question, what brand of powersupply comes with the chieftec case??? if it is a cheap brand, i would recommend going with the antec case that was in your original post. i wouldnt want you to ruin your system with a crappy powersupply...
