According to Omid Rahmat's two stupid "Stop Smothering AMD" articles AMD is possibly the next 3Dfx. Let's see the truth.

* 3Dfx dominated the 3D chip market like Intel now dominates the cpu market. AMD is an underdog like Nvidia was in the day's of Voodoo 3.

* According to marketing success K6 & Athlon family of cpus are compareable t Nvidia's Riva 128, TNT and TNT2 3D chips.

* Nvidia's GeForce chip made them the leading 3D chip manufacturer and caused 3Dfx to die. Will X86-64 "Hammer" cpus be as successful as GeForce and cause Intel to die? Only future can say.

According to these points we can tell that if there is a "3Dfx" in near future, it's Intel, not AMD.

N.B.:

I have another post about Omid's these articles. It's titled "Isn't there any Intel fanboys?" Please check it.

3dfx didnot execute will with its VooDoo4 and VooDoo 5 lines... Intel seems to executing very well and is unlikly to stop doing that in the forseeable future.

The real reason Nvidia won that race........The TNT w/ 2d/3d support on one card that was superior to anything else out there. Dont forget that 3dfx cards were just for 3D. When people found out you could get one card for both, and that did things better than Voodoo, they were all over it like a bum on a baloney sandwich. Then every 6 months Nvidia releases something to put them in the performance lead. What Omid was trying to describe was the similarities in the mentality of the two eXtrEMe fans, not the similarities of the companies.

This sig runs too hot.
