Not responding and error msgs

Hello,
what is the best free way to stop error messages and also not responding

do basic maintenance. Can you run a virus/malware scan.
Have you ever done a chkdsk on your C: volume?
Ever defragmented the C: drive
emptied out the TEMP folders
keep enough free space on your C drive (15 to 25% free)
uninstall any software you do not need
Find out your hard drive manufacturer and run the test utility
Download memtest and test your memory
make sure computer is clean and not so full of dust things are overheating (can of compressed air, no wiping or vacuuming creating static which destroys things)
