Please please help with HP notebook

my hp g61will turn on and work fine until the Window logo then go black but screen is still on and if I press on the keyboard, the screen will show again but in distorted colors then eventually shut down. I just bought a new battery last night after 6 months of no laptop and I have NO idea what it wrong.

does it work when running in Safe Mode?

no, once I clicked safe mode the screen starts with the enlarged curser and blue screen. Then goes black and shuts off

can you attach an external screen?
what happened to the old battery?
