My sister brought me her laptop to take a look at. It was having trouble staying on. I believe it to be a overheating issue as I hoy hw monitor on it and it was 50-60c. Pretty hot for a laptop.

So I took off the covers, removed battery and hard drive and blew out the dust with a can of compressed air.

I put it all back together and now I get no screen. The computer turns on but I have no picture now.

Whats going on here?

You must have done this but just saying, did you maximize the screen brightness.

Yep, already checked brightness.

Plugged it into an external monitor, tried booting without hd. Re-seated ram. Ran without battery, unplugged cmos battery.

Ive tried all those and nothing.

This doesnt make any sense at all. The screen worked fine before.

I took out the battery first, then coveres and hard drive. Blew out a bunch of dust. Put it back together in reverse order and now it doesnt work.

Effing great.

Run chkdsk on another PC. How old is the laptop?

1. Did it work on an external monitor?

2. What model laptop is it? If it is an HP DV series with an nvidia video chipset it could be on of the laptops with issues with the video chipset becoming unsoldered that brought out a class action suite against HP.
