XP1800 + Abit KG7-RAID = Bad News

Hello all. I recently bought an Athlon XP 1800 processor with an Abit KG7-RAID mobo. When I started the computer, however, I received an error message saying that the processor was either unworkable or had changed. I chose to continue anyway, and was able so sucessfully install everything.

Unfortunately, the processor is only reported as a 1.13Ghz (with a 100Mhz fsbus, even though all of my components are configured for 133Mhz). And when I tried to change the FSB/multiplier settings in the BIOS the computer failed to start, forcing me to clear and reset the CMOS.

I just recently rechecked a web site pertaining to the Abit mobo and found that it only supports a maximum of 1.4Ghz. Could this be why my processor fails to report at anything above 1.13? Is there a flash update, or other kind of update that I need to install?

Thanks for any help.

I've been running Abit KG7-RAID with XP1600 (overclocked to 1667MHz or XP2000). What revision of your BIOS? It needs rev. 5W and up to support XP.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

I don't have the computer handy at the moment, so I'm not sure. But I'll bet I've got an earlier version. Do you happen to know where I could download the newest version?

Also, just out of curiosity, how did you manage to clock the 1600 to a 2000 without having significant overheating issues? Are you using a water cooling system or something?

Thanks a lot.

Almost everyone with a little experience and a good aircooling can OC the 1600+ to 2000+... above that will probably ask a voltage mod and watercooling.

BTW I also have the Abit KG7-RAID with XP1600+ (that mobo also supports CPUs like the 2100+), it is currently running at stock speed because I'm redesigning my watercooler, I also did a voltage mod so I can get a VCore of 2.15V

Due to the current economical depression it is forbidden to laugh at work.

Hi

I bought an Abit KG7 and an Athlon XP 1600+. The board had an old BIOS that didn't support AXPs so it was detected as an Athlon 4 1050MHz. I updated it to the latest BIOS and noe it supports upto 2100+, so Update your BIOS and you'll be fine!!!!!!!

Windows XP Works on a K5 PR133 (100MHz) with 80MB RAM!!!!!!

Hey fellas. I ended up getting the 5W upgrade and it now works quite smoothly. So thanks for the advice. Just on a side note, though, I'm only getting about 7000 3DMarks with my system. Would overclocking to, say, XP2000 levels make a substantial difference? And do you recommend stepping the multiplier, FSB, or both?

Thanks again.
