Alright, i had to sit through vendor meetings today and listen to why i should sell their products to people, i work at BestBuy. It was long and mostly boring...
but one thing made me seriously giddy. I heard stuff about LCD, DLP, HD-ILA, Plasma, Klipsch, Monster cables, and many companies....but the Bose people made me want to rob a bank to have the system they demoed.
The 'Lifestyle' systems some with something called ADAPTiQ. Now i am super skeptical and honestly i was barely awake for most of the booths. They have a 5.1 home theater system set up and started playing a CD...i was like 'I get it, Bose is good' then one of the guys went around and covered the 5 cubes with buckets. Little plastic buckets like a litle kid would have at the beach. The music sounded, as you would assume, HORRIBLE and it sounded like someone was playing it through a giant plastic tube (because i guess they were). The the guy says 'Want to see what Bose can do thats special?' i of course dismissed this...and he hit a button and the music sounded PERFECT again. WITH THE GOD DAMN BUCKETS ON ALL FIVE OF THE SPEAKERS. He kept hitting the button on the remote and it went from buckt-ish sound to perfect sound...back and forth. i seriously thought they were fuckking with us, but it was real...i swear to you.
Bascially what you do is setup the system with a set of headphones with microphones built in each side and you sit in 5 different locations in the room and what it does is record the sound and adjust the sound to make it perfect. It will boost or muffle certain ranges from certain speakers so the end result at your ear is perfect.
Alright nobody has buckets on their speakers, but you can bascially mount the speakers INSIDE of lamp shades, IN taller plants, and BEHIND things to hide them from view and it will modify the sound so it comes out perfectly.
I know some may not care about this, but for those who can afford the $2,200-$5,000 for the lifstyle systems (DVD, CD player, receiver, high end one has HD for music storage, and full 5.1) you HAVE TO BUY THIS!!
If you can get to a place that will demo this feature you will poo yourself.
I just thought some of you might want to know about something i had never even thought of....and something thats insanely cool.

I have a bose Lifestyle system, without ADAPTiQ alas. Looks like I need an upgrade. My wife hates large speaker boxes (as most wifes do, I assume) and this seems the perfect solution.
I'm quite pleased with my curent system as the speaker boxes are really small (the large subwoofer excluded of course, but you can place that anywhere without affecting quality) but I can't really hide them out of sight yet.

E-mail Bose and see if they have a demo of ADAPTiQ somewhere in your area. The vender guy sia dthey hada couple demos setup around the country. but in bestbuy its nearly impossible because its too huge of a building with too much noise. people may not hear even extreme differences. They are looking into setting up sound room for it to demo...

I dont know what other brands have for features...i wish i had 50K to drop on 10 system to compare but i dont..lol
but most of what makes these companies products so exspensive is that last 5% (or whatever) of sound clearity and response amd the form they take. They try to design ways to make the speakers more stylish.
Bascially this is how i think of it...
If someone is consumed by sound and loves to hear the bestofthe best...they dont care what the speaker looks like, purely what it sounds like. The people who want great sound and dont care about looks could get uggo speakers for a 3rd the cost of Bang & Olufsen.
BUT here is why they make the retardedly exspensive ones...there are people who come into BestBuy and have bought a $5,000 plasma because the unit would look better in the room then a MUCH better plasma for $3500. There are people out there who want the sound and that exclusive name attached to it. They want people to know they have a Bose, Klipsch, Bang & Olufsen, or whatever....They all have great sound but they are overpriced for what they are.
Think about it like cars...a low end Ben is more $$$ then a WRX STi. One is about the smooth ride, and the name...the other is about being a rocket for as little as possible. Sometimes people want the name, sometimes they want the performance, and some people are lucky enough to be able to afford both....like an Enzo
