anyone use a peltier here? i wanna know how much u pay for electricity...

joking...

i noticed that the p4 and AMD CPUs use a lot of power. one friend of mine has a personal server(lots of rip version games, MP3s, movies that people can download), he has his PC on for 24hrs a day, 7days a week. he said that last month`s electricity bill was something like 250$. he doesn`t even have a air conditioner at his house, though. he think it`s the computer. he uses a dual p3-1000(coppermine), 4 HDDs(80gigs each, RAID), and a 815 dual mobo, 512mbs of ram. he has a enormous case, with 7 case fans. 9 fans if u count the CPU fans. the HDDs, the fans, and the 2 CPUs should really eat up a lot of power, though i`m surprised he uses a 300W power, and has no stability problems.

if he has this problem, then maybe my t-birl will have the same problem. who knows, my parents pay for my bills

Yeah well, I pay around $130 every three months and I think it is outrageous.
It´s not like I have an old Messerschmit BF-109 engine powered by electricity running 24/7.
I used to have like $50-$60 every three months, so this really seems odd to me.
I don´t think it´s the computer, sure it´s on most of the times but it´s really not that much electricity it uses.

It might have something to do with my old refridgerator, it´s like from the 60´s or something and the door is broken, cold air might seep(english?) out.

But hell!, that´s a lot of money to pay for something I can´t even see if you ask me!

umm LOL.. our electricity bill is $130 on average MONTHLY!! Has nothing to do with peltier since I don't use that. Only time it's less than $100 is during the cool/warm fall and spring months when heating or A/C are off. ($85 or so) Otherwise $130 give or take $15... LOL I wouldn't be bitching.

Na... that is nothing compared to my system (in some aspects):
I got 14 fans (casefans, chipfans, PSU fans)
2 350W PSUs
4 HDs, 3CDROMs and 2 FDs
Abit KG7-RAID, AMD Athlon XP1600+, 512 MB RAM, MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 128 MB, NIC and SB Live!
I also have a watercooler... and yes I own a 172 W peltier with a special 24V 200W PSU... but I don't use the peltier at this moment.
Dunno what the bill is, could ask my parents. Would be rather high I think, 'cause we got 4 PCs and a lot of other electric stuff.

My watercooler contains so much water that the moon has influence upon it  .

Yeah, the P4's and the Athlon's both use over 70 watts of power BY THEMSELVES. Even the new Celerons are energy hoggers.

$130 every 3 months? That is incredibly cheap to me. What country do you live in? Anyone here live in California who like their bills? In summer time with the AC, my bill approaches $350 a month, and in the winter time it's about $200 a month I believe, and we have all new energy saving appliances (although the computers and TV are on a bit much). And you're upset about $40 a month? :)

Like I said mine is generally $175-$200 on average a month and the only time it's around below $125 or so is in the spring/fall months when the heat & AC are off. Even when I did live in an apartment I recall my bills over $100 in the winter and summer, seriously your bills are beyond cheap. I looked at a bill for the hell of it and it's 4.6 cents a KWh (kilo-watt hour)

$50 a month when not running A/C(most of the year), and PC on about 6 hrs a day. NY, Large 1 b/r apt. Just me and my g/f, and we dont watch much TV. 16 cents kw/h.

2 fan 350W PS, 1HD, 2cd-Rom, P4 1.8ghz, GF3, RDRAM, 2 case fans.

Rule for electricity bills......Bout 1 US$ per watt, per year. So 350 Watts(theoretically, if its full on 350W 24/7)is $350 a year. 350/12 equals about $29 a month.

That rule is for a general amount...not necesarily accurate. But close.

To be more exact, out of my own curiosity...Very good question BTW......
If the system ran full brink 300Watts, 24/7 it would accrue 1 KWH every 3.3 hours. (1000Watts=1KWH)
Which for me 1 KWH is about 16 cents.
In 24hrs, thats 7.27KWHs, and that totals $1.16 a day.
In a 365 day year that's $424.56.
Monthly it's $35.38.

You do the math and supplement in your regions KWH charge.

This sig runs too hot.

I live in Sweden and I don´t need a AC

Well, my friends have like $50-$60 every three months and the live as "spartan" as I do...that´s why I am annoyed.

It is not normal to pay that much for electricity in Sweden, it´s one of few things that are "cheap" here...everything else, the food, taxes, alcohol, you name it makes up for what you call cheap electricity, I promise you that...
