Guys I am looking to purchase a motherboard / cpu for gaming, but I am not sure which way to go intal or amd!
here is some of the kit that I have been looking at
Athlon XP1800
Gigabyte ga-7vrxp mother board (very good review at tomshardware)
total cost £151
or
Athlon XP 1800
Epox 8k3a+ motherboard
£177
or
should I go for a p4 1.8 northwood @2.4ghz + abit bd7-II (none raid version! would the raid version be a big improvement?)motherboard
£252
ps could I overclock the athlon xp1800, to match the performance of the faster xp cpu's (with the gigbyte or epox mboard)
one more question! anyone know anything about the abit kx7-333 (the none raid version) £77
im using three xp1800 cpus, two with kg7s and 1 (mine) with a kr7..
with a geforce 3 ti200 they are performing great.. i cant complain.
they are cheap and easy to build..
if you want an intel setup, its more expensive, but will nail xp setups if you overclock the cpus..
i wouldnt bother overclocking xp cpus as to me there is no real point as they are already very fast as it is.. if you want to overclock, like i said, go intel..
for a kr7 and a xp you are looking at less than £120.. im pretty sure..
where you live in england?? (i was just noticing that you are quoting pounds rather than dollars...)
well, if thats of any use, then i hope the choices you make work out great!!
if all else fails... kick it and if it goes wrong, say it wasnt you...
a lot of people have been having trouble with that particular gigabyte motherboard. As for gaming, the P4 will most likely give you the best performance. Personally i would wait a few months and get the new 8x agp motherboards that are comming out. That way you can upgrade your card later and still get the best gaming experiance =)
"What kind of idiot are you?"
"I don't know, what kinds are there?"
