From what I've been able to learn, the 850e is the last Intel chipset supporting RDRAM. So PC1066 RDRAM is probably as far as that technology will go.

The next Intel 845 chipset will be the 845PE (also the GE which is a PE + built-in video). This chipset will be adding support for DDR333.

So, the question in my mind is: What is a better solution on a P4 2.26Ghz/533?

A) Intel 845PE chipset with DDR333 memory?

or

B) Intel 850e chipset with PC1066 RDRAM memory?

Another consideration would be an 845PE/DDR333 versus 850e/PC800, but I don't know why anyone would spend the money to get a P4/533Mhz FSB and then settle for PC800 only.

Difference between i850e + PC1066 and i845PE + DDR 333 will be very little, similar to the difference of i850e + PC1066 and SiS648 + DDR400. Your eyes will not notice the difference.

Best Solution on P4 2.26Ghz/533 is :

Intel 850e chipset with PC1066 RDRAM memory (if you have money and want to be best at practical and theoritical field and don't care how money is spent)

or

Intel 845PE chipset with DDR333 memory (if you want practically very good performance and want to spend your money wisely.)

For overclocking, I think i850e + PC1066 may be better

PC-1066 Is currently the fastest memory for the P4. DDR 333 also yields better performance than PC-800 but not better performance than the PC-1066. Toms Hardware recently did a review on the SiS 648 reference board that supports DDR 400. DDR 400 or PC-3200 is neck and neck with PC-1066, sometimes even better. Well, I don't know much about memory so just check out this article.

Overclocking with RDRAM is usually a bit tougher cause you don't get as many RAM dividers. Also, DDR RAM mobos usually include more overclocking features.

The i850E/PC1066 will likely give you around 10% better performance than the 845PE/DDR333. That's fairly large.

Hey, head on over to VR-Zone.com. They've got some dates and features for SiS chipsets.
