Computer freezes

i just put windows 7 in everything went fine last night i go to turn my computer on and it gets to dells screen then nothing for about 8 minutes then it starts up ive got a dell inspion 530 1/1/2 years old warrenty is up so i need help could it be the battery????

Can you perform a memory test and chkdisk to ensure that your RAM and HDD are not faulty?

last week i put windows 7 in everything was good then the other night turned on my computer on andit took like almost 10 minutes for it to boot up and has been doing it ever since this is a new computer about 1 1/2 years old i dont think its the hard drive as for the ram i dont know cant remember how to do a chkdisk can u refresh my memory on how to do that
